Features of PCBN turning inserts
Extremely high hardness and wear resistance: Hardness can reach HV3000 and above, making it ideal for machining high-hardness materials and resulting in extremely long tool life.
Excellent thermal stability: Can withstand cutting temperatures above 1200°C, while diamond begins to graphitize above 700°C.
High chemical inertness: Low affinity with ferrous metals, reducing the likelihood of built-up edge formation and achieving better machined surfaces.
Good thermal conductivity: Helps to rapidly dissipate cutting heat, reducing workpiece thermal deformation and tool thermal damage.

PCBN Turning Insert Features
PCBN turning insert provides excellent wear resistance, thermal stability, and high precision for machining hardened steels and cast iron. With extended tool life and superior surface finishes, these inserts perform well in both roughing and finishing operations at high speeds and temperatures.

Product Manufacturing Process

1. Mixing
First, micron- or nano-sized cubic boron nitride (CBN) powder is uniformly mixed with a precisely proportioned metal binder. This step is fundamental to ensuring the consistency and stability of the final product's performance.
2. Drying
The mixed slurry is dried to remove moisture or organic solvents, forming a uniform, loose powder mixture, ready for subsequent pressing.
3. Pressing
The dried powder mixture is loaded into a precision mold and pressed into a pre-defined blade blank using ultra-high-pressure equipment. This step determines the initial geometry and density of the product.
4. Sintering
This is the most critical step in the entire process. The pressed blade blank is placed in an ultra-high temperature and pressure apparatus and sintered under conditions approaching or exceeding the thermal stability limits of cubic boron nitride. During this process, the CBN grains are firmly bonded together by the binder, forming a dense, hard polycrystalline structure.
5. Grinding Process
The sintered insert blank has achieved ultra-high hardness, but its dimensions and surface finish do not yet meet usage requirements. At this stage, a diamond grinding wheel is used for precision grinding to obtain accurate geometry, cutting-edge shape, and extremely high surface finish.
6. PCBN Coating
For some high-end products, a thinner and harder PCBN or polycrystalline diamond coating is deposited on the finely ground PCBN substrate using processes such as chemical vapor deposition. This coating significantly improves the insert's wear resistance, impact resistance, and service life.
