Application of Vertical Machining Center

Application Of Vertical Machining Center Application Of Vertical Machining Center Application Of Vertical Machining Center

Vertical machining centers are widely used in mechanical manufacturing, aerospace, mold manufacturing, and other fields, and meet the needs of different industries with their versatility and precision. It can complete a variety of processing tasks such as milling, drilling, boring, tapping, etc., and is suitable for processing complex parts such as plates, discs, molds,s and small shells. In mechanical manufacturing, vertical machining centers are used to process precision parts such as guide rails and gears; in the aerospace field, they process high-precision components of aircraft and engines.

How To Maintain A VMC?

Lubrication and Protection
Before shutting down the machining center, ensure all axes are well-lubricated using the specified grease. Move all axes through their full range, allowing the ball screws and guide rails to be thoroughly covered in lubricant. Once completed, stop the X, Y, and Z axes near the center of their travel range.

Spindle and Tool Holder Care
Do not leave tool holders inside the spindle. Residual cutting fluid on the spindle and tool holder's taper surfaces can cause adhesion. Remove the tool holder and clean the spindle taper surface, applying a rust inhibitor to both the spindle and tool holder taper surfaces.

Surface Rust Prevention
To prevent rust formation on the worktable and fixture surfaces, apply a rust inhibitor and lubricant before shutting down the machine.

Battery Replacement and Monitoring
Check the battery icon on the lower-right corner of the display screen. If the icon is visible and the battery has not been replaced recently, change the battery at least one week before the long holiday. Neglecting to replace the battery may lead to data loss, such as machining programs and machine parameters.

Data Backup
To protect against data loss, transfer essential machining programs and machine parameters to a computer or USB drive for safekeeping.

You need to consider when buying a VMC

Processing requirements

Clarify the type of processing required, such as high-speed drilling, milling, or engraving, and the type of processing material, such as metal, plastic, or other special materials.

Power and speed

Determine the required motor power, table speed, and feed speed according to production requirements to improve production efficiency.

Automation level

Evaluate the automation level of the equipment, including automatic tool changer and tool magazine capacity, which directly affects production efficiency and ease of operation.

CNC system

It is necessary to select a suitable CNC system according to the performance requirements of the machine tool, including basic functions and optional functions.

Number of axes

Select the appropriate number of coordinate axes and linkage axes according to the processing requirements of typical workpieces, which is also a sign of the machine tool level.

Cooling system

Consider the needs of the cooling system, including the type of coolant, circulation method, and cleanliness, to ensure that the selected system can meet the equipment operation requirements.

Environmental

The vertical machining center should be installed away from vibration sources, with the ambient temperature controlled between 5°C and 40°C, and relative humidity kept below 80%.

Operating specifications

Understand the operating specifications of the equipment to ensure safe operation and proper use of the equipment.

FAQ

Q: What is the feed rate in the vertical machining center?

A: Feed rate refers to the velocity at which the cutting tool works along the workpiece during its single rotation.

Q: What is the difference between CNC and VMC?

A: CNC is a technology for machines and VMC is the name of a particular type of machine. CNC technology encompasses the broader concept of computer control in machining, while VMC technology refers to a specific type of CNC machine with a vertical spindle orientation.

Q: What is the maximum rpm of VMC?

A: VMC, Spindle Speed: Upto 12000 Rpm. A VMC (Vertical Machining Center) is a machine with a CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) controller.

Q: How does temperature affect Vmc?

A: Air density, temperature, and altitude play a significant role in determining Vmc, with higher altitudes and temperatures generally increasing Vmc due to decreased engine performance and air density.

Q: Why do flaps lower VMC?

A: Generally, flaps up increase Vmc while flaps down decrease as a result of drag counteracting thrust as the slipstream quality behind the operating engine is reduced which in turn reduces the engine efficiency and thrust.
